The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is making technology available at the border to give travellers a more modern and faster experience.
Today, ArriveCAN offers the Advance CBSA Declaration feature. This optional feature is for travellers who want to save time at certain Canadian international airports by providing their customs and immigration declaration to the CBSA in advance.
In the coming months and years, new border-related features will come online in ArriveCAN and change the border experience for the better.
Mobile app requirements
To download, install or update the app, you’ll need either:
- an Apple device running iOS 12 or above
- enable automatic app updates: go to Settings > App Store > on the next screen, make sure the toggle next to App Updates is set to “on”
- an Android device running OS 6 or above
- enable “auto update” for this app in Google Play Store
- you may get a notification that asks whether you accept the new permissions

When app updates become available, the web version updates automatically.

Travel Identity Document
To create your traveller profile, you will need one of two official documents that will confirm your identity:

By using the “saved traveller” feature on the app, your travel identity document can be retained on a secure server linked to your sign-in account.
You will not need to re-create your profile each time you travel to Canada, unless your information changes. However, you will still need to submit the specific details about your trip each time you travel to Canada.
Creating Profiles For Others
You may also create a profile on behalf of someone you know who is travelling.
Any profile you complete for others in your travel party will be linked to your sign-in account. If you take another trip alone, remember to remove their name(s) from your account.
Make sure members in your travel party bring the same travel identity documents with them that you used to create their profiles.
Advance CBSA Declaration: Submit Your Customs And Immigration Declaration
Get started with your declaration up to 72 hours before your scheduled arrival in Canada at one of the following international airports:
- Vancouver international airport (YVR)
- Toronto Pearson international airport (YYZ) (Terminals 1 and 3)
- Montreal-Trudeau international airport (YUL)
- Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG)
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ)
Sign in to the ArriveCAN app and follow the prompts to begin.
When you have completed all fields in the app, a confirmation screen will appear acknowledging that you successfully submitted your declaration. You will also receive an email with this confirmation.
Should something change with your information, you can always update things when you get to the airport kiosk or eGate.
